Renewal of the WIPO Brazil Office Headquarters Agreement approved in the House of Representatives
On October 8, 2024, the House of Representatives discussed and approved the Bill of Legislative Decree (PDL) #271/2024, which renews the Headquarters Agreement between Brazil and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), to maintain one of the organization's offices in Brazil.
The vote followed the approval of an urgency request submitted by Congressman Júlio Lopes (PP/RJ) on August 12, 2024. The PDL had already been approved by the House’s Industry, Trade, and Services Committee (CICS), and already had a report prepared by the Finance and Tax Committee (CFT).
The final wording of the PDL still needs to be reviewed and approved by the Brazilian Senate.
The establishment of a WIPO office in Brazil was approved by the signing of a Headquarters Agreement on October 2, 2009, and enacted by Decree #9.575/2018.
