BRPTO Extends Deadline Suspensions for Industrial Designs

On July 2, 2024, the BRPTO published a Notice in Official Gazette #2791, which informs that the problems with the examination of formality for some industrial design applications filed between January 15, 2023, and January 4, 2024, are indeed not yet solved. Despite the issues, the BRPTO assures the integrality of the applications, as well as their respective filing dates.

The BRPTO has also informed that the system has begun to accept petitions for divisional applications (BR 32) on June 26, 2024. However, errors with the BUSCAWEB system persist, and some data and documents related to industrial designs are still not displayed. The new deadline for resolving these errors is July 31, 2024.

Due to those problems, the issuance of registration certificates communicated from November 14, 2023 (Official Gazette #2758) remains suspended. The new deadline for the resumption of issuances is August 30, 2024.
