Licks Attorneys announces Viviane Kunisawa as a new partner

We are pleased to announce that Viviane Kunisawa has joined Licks Attorneys as a Partner to lead the life science matters regulatory compliance team , including the protection of regulatory data and access to biodiversity.

She has extensive expertise on intellectual property, unfair competition and regulatory law, having started her career as a member of the team formed by the Licks Attorney’s founding partners at an intellectual property firm in Brazil, where she led complex patent litigation and regulatory compliance cases. Viviane’s solid experience includes nearly eight years as an in-house counsel at Syngenta, a multinational company in the agribusiness sector, where she managed intellectual property strategies and provided legal support to the government and regulatory affairs departments on the approval of products before the Brazilian government authorities, advising on risk mitigation and value capture, so as to ensure freedom to operate for the business, as well as led advocacy initiatives via industry associations.

With a LL.M. from the Munich Intellectual Property Association (MIPLC) and a Ph.D. from the Ludwig- Maximilians-Universität München, Viviane’s background also comprises a position as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition in Munich and as a visiting researcher at the Chizaiken (Institute of Intellectual Property) in Tokyo.

An active member of the IP community, Viviane has been Co-chairwoman of the ABPI’s Biotechnology Study Committee for more than five years and had been previously Co-chairwoman of the Plant Variety Study Committee. She has been a speaker in several events and published articles on Intellectual Property Law.
