Beatriz Aguiar is a chemical engineer and patent specialist who joined Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro office in 2025. She possesses a deep understanding of intellectual property, focusing on prosecuting patent applications and patents before the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO), primarily in the chemical, biotechnological and pharmaceutical fields. Her work involves conducting prior art searches, analyzing and reporting the BRPTO’s technical opinions, and preparing responses to comply with or contest them. She also handles briefs and drafts replies to third-party observations, including both pre-grant and post-grant oppositions. Ms. Aguiar well-versed in the Brazilian Patent Statute, along with normative instructions and examination guidelines issued by the BRPTO, as well as the major intellectual property treaties.
