Samir Cavalcante joined Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro Office in 2021, having previously worked with the office as technical advisor in lawsuits involving chemical patents and patent applications. Dr. Cavalcante has also been working with different domestic and international institutions on the design and synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients, analytical and organic chemistry, as well as CBRN Defense
Dr. Cavalcante is a highly skilled researcher with over 20 years of experience in organic synthesis, working with hazardous chemicals in complex scenarios, medicinal chemistry, and analytical techniques (NMR, GC, HPLC, MS, IR). Among his published scientific papers, he is the coinventor of four patents filed to the BRPTO, a reviewer for JCR-indexed scientific publications, and a lecturer in courses on CBRN Defense organized by Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Brazilian Army and Brazilian Air Force (Galeão Air Base Hospital). Additionally, Dr. Cavalcante is part of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Mechanism (UNSGM) Qualified Expert roster (investigation of alleged use of CBT Agents – Chemical, Biological and Toxins). OPCW Qualified Expert Team Training Camp in 2014 (Czech Republic, 2014), Visiting Researcher (OPCW Fellowships) at Spiez Laboratory (Switzerland, 2012) and at VERIFIN/University of Helsinki (Finland, 2016).
