Felipe Oquendo is a partner at Licks Attorneys based in Rio de Janeiro. He has more than 16 years of experience in intellectual property litigation, advising clients on complex and high-stakes disputes involving patents, plant varieties, trademarks, industrial designs and unfair competition.
 

His practice has a strong focus on patent litigation, particularly in matters involving ICT, standard-essential patents (SEPs), life sciences and mechanical engineering. He represents clients in technically sophisticated disputes and develops litigation and enforcement strategies tailored to the legal, technical and commercial aspects of each matter.

He also advises clients on broader intellectual property enforcement and strategic issues in Brazil.

  • Represented a major Dutch company in complex patent litigation involving oil drilling vessels. The case was settled;
  • Represented a major American veterinary products company in patent litigation involving key products for the control of diseases in pets. The case was settled;
  • Represented a major Brazilian paper producing company in groundbreaking plant variety litigation;
  • Represented several patent applicants against the Brazilian Patent Office in writs of mandamus filed to avoid the application of restrictive rules to the examination of appeals filed before the date in which said rules entered into force. Favorable rulings have been issued, pending appeal from the BRPTO.
