Brazil and Finland sign Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) agreement
The Brazilian PTO (BRPTO) announced, through the Federal Register of July 19, 2023, that the Brazilian and Finnish PTOs have signed on July 10, 2023, an agreement to expedite the examination of pending Brazilian patent applications. The agreement implements a PPH Pilot program between both Offices. The program will come into force on August 1, 2023.
Nevertheless, as informed in our Client Alert from July 6, the limit of 800 requests of PPH (Patent Prosecution Highway) for 2023 has already been reached. Therefore, new PPH requests will not be accepted for the remainder of 2023. The PPH program will resume in 2024.
The BRPTO is still expanding its cooperation agreements and notifying the Brazilian patent system users via its website about new participating Offices. Below are the Offices participating in the current PPH program:
