BRPTO to adopt WIPO's e-Filing system for the certification of international trademark applications in the Madrid System
The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) has announced that, starting on April 13, will begin using the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) e-Filing system to certify international trademark applications filed by Brazilian users under the Madrid System.
Used by 39 PTOs worldwide, e-Filing is a free platform provided by WIPO aiming to standardize procedures and increase efficiency in processing international applications.
According to BRPTO, adopting e-Filing will bring significant benefits to users, including:
- Greater efficiency in the certification process, with automatic data import directly from BRPTO’s database, reducing inconsistencies and formal errors;
- An integrated assistant linked to the Madrid Goods and Services Manager (MGS), making it easier to translate and harmonize the list of products and services in the chosen language;
- Tools to correct irregularities directly within the system;
- Automatic calculation and payment of WIPO fees, including by credit card;
- Direct management of the portfolio of international applications awaiting certification.
This change is expected to bring greater predictability, speed, and data quality, aligning Brazilian procedures with the best international practices adopted by other PTOs.
