BRPTO will no longer accept international PCT filings on paper as of July 1, 2025
In a statement published on the BRPTO’s website on January 15, 2025, it was reported that, effective July 1 of this year, international PCT filings will only be accepted in electronic format via the e-PCT system. Applicants wishing to file on paper must submit their documents directly to the International Bureau in Geneva.
The Brazilian delegation initially proposed this change to Rule 89 bis of the PCT Rule in 2022. It was approved by the 56th (32nd Extraordinary) Session of the PCT Union, held from July 9 to 17, 2024.
