On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the Presiding Appellate Judge of the Sao Paulo State Court of Appeals (TJSP), the Honorable Fernando Antonio Torres Garcia, held a ceremony at the João Mendes Courthouse to inaugurate the 3rd Business Court of the Sao Paulo State Court, along with a new Judicial Processing Unit, which will serve the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Business Courts.
The initiative marks another stage in TJSP's ongoing expansion of judicial specialization, aimed at ensuring faster and more efficient handling of highly complex cases. According to TJSP Resolution #763/2016, these Business Courts have jurisdiction over lawsuits involving industrial property and unfair competition (Brazilian Patent Statute - Law # 9,279/1996), among other business-related matters.
In his inaugural address, the Presiding Appellate Judge emphasized that TJSP's specialization in business law is a national benchmark, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025.
Established seven years after the 1st and 2nd Business Courts of the Capital1, the 3rd Business Court is now presided over by the Honorable Judge Fábio Henrique Prado de Toledo. During the ceremony, the judge underscored the importance of recognizing the individuals behind business disputes.
The creation of this new court strengthens the delivery of specialized judicial services in industrial property matters in the country's main commercial hub, ensuring litigants greater speed in urgent measures and substantive rulings by judges with expertise in the field.
