Vítor Montovani joined Licks Attorneys as a legal intern in 2021 and became an attorney at law in 2026 after graduating from the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ) School of Law. Since joining the firm, Mr. Montovani has worked on patent infringement actions before Brazilian state courts and patent validity disputes before the federal courts. His practice has involved clients across a broad range of technologies, including Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) related to cellular communications and video decoding, as well as computer vision, streaming technologies, and mechanical innovations for the automotive industry.
 

Recently, Mr. Montovani has worked on six patent enforcement matters that resulted in worldwide patent licensing agreements. In one matter, Mr. Montovani represented a startup specializing in computer vision-based user experience enhancements, in an infringement action against the market leader in smartphone sales in Brazil. In another, Mr. Montovani worked on the enforcement of four patents implemented by Brazil’s second-largest streaming platform. The remaining four settlements arose from Brazil’s first and second waves of litigation involving cellular SEPs asserted against automakers.
 

Mr. Montovani’s LL.B. thesis, which was recommended for publication, examined the proper scope of court-appointed expert examinations in patent invalidity actions.
