Government officially appoints  executive officers of the Brazilian PTO

The Brazilian Federal Government released this Wednesday (July 20) ordinance appointing Júlio César Castelo Branco Reis Moreira to perform the duties of President of the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO), Alexandre Dantas Rodrigues as the Patent Director, and Antonio Cavaliere Gomes as the Chief Prosecutor of the Specialized Federal Prosecution Office designated to the BRPTO.

Júlio César Moreira has been a public servant at the BRPTO since 1998 and was appointed as the BRPTO acting president on January 17, 2023. He has held the position of Director of Administration at the agency since June 2018. Before this, he spent seven years as the Patent Director (from 2011 to 2018). He also served as Technical Assistant to the Patent Directory (from 2008 to 2011) and was Deputy Head of Chemistry Division I (from 2003 to 2007). He is a researcher in Industrial Property, having served as a Patent Examiner from 1998 to 2007.

Alexandre Dantas Rodrigues has been a public servant at the BRPTO since 2018 and was appointed as acting Patent Director in January 2023. He has held the position of technical assistant of the patent division (DIRPA) of the BRPTO since June 2018. Before this, he spent 10 months as the chief of the chemical engineering division (DIPEQ).

Antonio Cavaliere Gomes has been a federal prosecutor since 2003, acting on behalf of the BRPTO since 2008. He held the position of litigation coordinator from 2009 to 2013. He has been working at the Federal Regional Prosecution Office of the 2nd Region since 2013.

The ordinance also appointed Schmuell Lopes Cantanhêde as the Trademark Director, Alexandre Lopes Lourenço as the Director of Administration, and Tania Cristina Lopes Ribeiro as the Executive Director.
