Carolina Souza joined Licks Attorneys’ Rio de Janeiro office as a legal intern in 2021 and became an attorney at law in 2023. Her practice focuses on complex cases in intellectual property, including patent consulting and litigation in the telecommunications and pharmaceutical industries. Prior to joining Licks Attorneys, Ms. Souza gained experience through internships at other prestigious Brazilian law firms specializing in IP.

Ms. Souza was recognized by the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) with a fourth-place finish in its 2021 Hackathon, the Office’s inaugural innovation competition. The event brought together professionals across various fields to develop technological solutions aimed at improving services, fostering a culture of innovation, enhancing protection strategies, and expanding the use of databases within Brazil’s intellectual property system.

In 2023, Ms. Souza was awarded third place in the “Minister Guilherme Palmeira Award” competition, organized by the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), for a co-authored paper on consensual dispute resolution within the Public Administration.

Her professional and academic background also reflects a commitment to strengthening legal, political, economic, financial, and cultural ties between Latin America and East/Southeast Asia, with particular focus on Brazil–China relations
